The magnificent Wat Tang Sai was built in 1996 in celebration of the 50-year anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s ascension to the throne.
Taking the term ‘Golden Jubilee’ literally, the temple has a giant golden Buddha, and its 9 golden pagodas represent the king’s other name: Rama IX. The long staircase up to the temple keeps the golden spires and colorful facade in full view, providing motivation to keep going. Visitors will find the golden motif continues inside, with plenty of gilded details, as well as traditional-style paintings and stained glass windows. From the temple’s hilltop position, visitors are also treated to fantastic panoramic views of the coast below. If the climb gets you hungry, head back down to the beach to enjoy some local seafood while admiring the temple from afar.
